ONE of rap's brightest emerging talents, Crisis, is currently camped out in Colwyn Bay recording new material and promoting his current album, Designer.
He spoke exclusively to Pioneer reporters Matt Jones and Anna Glover last week during a break from filming the video to his new single Hit Da Floor at the Litten Tree.

The Zambian-born musician and producer said: ”I think this album has a lot of truth and represents my personality. It has taken me about a year to record this album, in that year a lot of things have happened.

“Track one [Turning Back] talks about a break-up and it didn't happen then but it ended-up becoming true and that is a story that I have to tell. I believe a lot of times that the things that you say could end up becoming true.”

Designer is a mix of laid-back R&B songs reminiscent of early 90s acts such as Dr Dre-produced Blackstreet and more upbeat and edgy tracks.

The album is well-produced and contains strong material. With such an assured long player under his belt it seems that there is plenty more to come from this rising star.

Crisis also hit-out at rappers who sing about situations and events that aren’t real.

He said: “There are a lot of personal experiences and personal feelings on the album. You have got to live it, you should have been through it, you just can't be talking about something you have never really experienced."

Asked about his influences he said: “I think as individuals everyday wherever we go we are inspired by different things and people and I can't really put my finger on where I pick things up from. But I can clearly say that I'm coming with a new sound that is really catchy. I have some songs that mix hip hop and rock and it all blends together really well without sounding like your forcing it to happen.”
