Preparations are in full swing for a smash-hit fantasy musical showcasing budding talent.

Performing arts students from Coleg Llandrillo, under the collective moniker Bottletop Productions, are putting the finishing touches on their very own production of Broadway hit Into the Woods for their final production of the academic year in Theatr Colwyn.

Academy Award winner Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining plots and exploring the consequences of wishes and quests.

This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel – all tied together by an original story – which led to a 2014 film adaptation featuring Meryl Streep and James Corden.

The story – and the showstopping music – follows the story of a witch that tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from each of the classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree. The students' final production, building on previous productions Déjà Vu, Macbeth and Moulin Rouge earlier in the academic year, will see them scale new heights and expand their retinue to master an eclectic selection of more than 70 musical pieces.

Into the Woods will be staged on June 7, 8 and 9 at 7.30pm with an extra matinee performance at 2.30pm on Friday, June 8. Tickets are £8, available online at theatrcolwyn.co.uk or by calling the box office (01492 577888).
