AFTER gracing the stage at Osfest 2013, Danny Gruff and the Peacemakers chatted to the County Times about what’s in store for them for the rest of the year.
The Wrexham based, folk-rock band comprise of Danny Gruff, guitarist Jimi Kehlenbeck, guitarist Sam Jones, drummer Nathan Jones and bassist Nige Evans.
Osfest 2013 was the band’s second year at the Shropshire festival, who took to the stage the previous year.
They played the main stage during the Saturday of the festival.
Danny also later performed on the second stage with Wrexham band JKLMNO.
Danny said: “Osfest really has grown this year but I’m pleased to see that for however many big names there are playing, there is still plenty of local and up-and-coming acts playing here.”
Jimi said: “The local music scene is very productive. Osfest really has showcased this and shown what Shropshire and Wrexham bands do.”
Looking back over the last year, Sam said: “We have definitely progressed as a band in the last 12 months, we are starting to act much more like a band really. We do a lot more writing together now, rather then just Danny writing.
“We’re a lot more cohesive too, we’ve really grown as friends in this last year.”
This was apparent, as the band laughed and made fun of each other throughout the interview.
The band are currently in the process of writing an album and performed their latest song ‘Box of Memories’ at Osfest.
“Our newer stuff is more darker really, I’ve always liked to write about relationships. I do feel the best songs do come out of darker stuff.
“We are edging towards a punk sound I’d say,” said Danny.
He cited a variety of musical influences including Gaslight Anthem, Frank Turner, Against Me and Jim Lockey.
Danny has also just announced a solo tour with 10 dates across the country.
He said: “I’m looking forward to it, it’s a bigger tour than last year. I can’t wait.”
