The St David’s Hospice Dragon Boat Challenge returned to the shores of Llyn Padarn for a spectacular day of fundraising fun.

On Saturday, the Lake in Llanberis played host to the annual event to support hospice care in North West Wales, with more than 20 teams taking part.

Many participants wore colourful fancy dress costumes, including Vikings outfits, or dressed as Cat in the Hat characters, while others donned wigs and tutus.

The 40ft Hong Kong dragon boats raced to the finishing line, with eventual winners ‘Dream of Dan’s Dragons’ taking the gold medal for the first time.

Andrew Everley, fundraising manager, for St David’s Hospice, which is based in Llandudno, said: “It was a great day. The lake was beautiful in the sunshine.

“Everyone really entered in to the spirit of the day and there was a fantastic atmosphere.

“Lots of fun was had by all those who took part and spectators on the shoreline.

“It is too soon to say how much the event has raised as sponsorship is still coming in but it is hoped that it will be over £20,000.

“We have received really lovely feedback and are already planning next year’s event.”
