A COMMUNITY cleaning team lent a hand in clearing a popular beach of weeds and plants.

Conwy’s Community Payback unit spent nearly a week at Rhos on Sea, clearing weeds from the street side of Rhos Beach.

The team - which takes on clean-up jobs throughout the county, including washing away graffiti or removing rubbish left by fly tipping - comprised an average five members per day, working on shifts on Rhos Beach from 8am until 4pm.

Martin Trigg, Community Payback Supervisor, said he decided to help with the cleanup after seeing a story on the beach in the Pioneer in November.

He was put in contact with Rhos Cllr Roger Parry, who had originally raised the issue of weeds on the beach, by Cllr Mike Priestley, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Environment.

Mr Trigg said: “And to be fair the weather’s been on our side - we’ve had five or six good days.”
