A STUDENT from Llandudno has been made a London 2012 Olympic torchbearers after her performance in a national business competition.
St David’s College student Ashleigh Meigh will carry the torch along a stretch of its relay route after her college took third place prize in the national final of the Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) real business challenge held at Wembley Stadium last week.
Fellow students voted for Ashleigh to be made a torchbearer in recognition of her commitment to charity fundraising and her role as a peer mediator at the school.
“I was very shocked when I found out but I am now excited and looking forward to be making a contribution to the Games,” said Ashleigh, who received her honour from Baroness Tanni-Grey Thompson.
“My family are very proud of the achievement and I am looking forward to also represent my school, St David’s College in the relay”.
Business studies teacher Mark Turner said: “To have finished in the top three out of the whole of the UK, in a competition of this scale, is a fantastic achievement.
“The new challenges set in the final had a genuinely professional approach and helped the students to develop key business skills, which will help to give them confidence in the future, whether it’s applying for university, taking a job interview or entering life in the workplace.”
