PLANS ARE in place to convert an empty store into an exhibition celebrating a town’s annual fair.

Members of the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza committee are hoping to take over Shus on Lloyd Street and turning it into a dedicated to the history and promotion of the event.

The committee are hoping to take charge of the store by Easter, in time for them to hand out maps and programmes to visitors on the Easter weekend.

Gaynor Baker, vice chairman for the committee, said the idea came to the group after they held a successful public display last year at the Victoria Centre, and decided to take their work a stage further.

She said “It's the 25th Extravaganza. I thought we should install something new into it. Last year we had some placards in the Victoria Centre, donated by the Llandudno Museum, and that went quite well.

“And we thought ‘Let's go one step forward and have not just an information centre but a museum.’”

The organisers are also asking residents to donate any souvenirs, memorabilia or photographs which are connected with past Extravaganza, to form part of the exhibition in the museum.

Mrs Baker added “It's to show people's memories of the Extravaganza over the past 25 years.

“I know someone that got married during the Extravaganza and they had to walk down to the Castle Hotel, and we've got pictures of the bride in her wedding dress.”

The 25th Extravaganza will also be a double celebration due to its coinciding with the Royal Wedding, and as such will be beginning a day earlier, with roads closing on the midnight of April 28 rather than midday April 29.

Organisers added that this will give them the chance to open attractions on Trinity Square on the Friday.
