PIER CAMPAIGNERS are positive  after a meeting between them and Assembly representatives.

Jocelyn Davies AM, Deputy Minister for Regeneration, held a meeting with Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, and members of the Colwyn Bay Pier Pressure Group, to discuss their plans for the future of Colwyn Bay pier.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Millar said he was hopeful that things were now moving forward with the pier.

He said: “Many of my constituents want to see the pier restored to its former glory. For too long it has been an eyesore which has blighted the waterfront in Colwyn Bay. We had a very positive meeting today and I was pleased to learn that a solution to the ownership of the pier is in the process of being developed.

“It was interesting to hear more details about the Colwyn Bay Pier Pressure Group’s vision for the future of the pier which was outlined in the meeting.”

Penny Davies, member of the Pier Pressure Group, said the meeting with the Deputy Minister and Mr Millar had been productive, and that the group could not afford to miss the opportunity for redevelopment.

She said: “Now is the time because it fits in with the development on the waterfront. If we can succeed, it looks quite good for Colwyn Bay.

“We’re going to put a stall out on Prom Day and get public support going. The next thing is to engage with the public.”
