THE BODY of an 82 year old man was recovered from the northern tip of the Great Orme on Sunday afternoon.
Conwy Lifeboat and RAF Rescue were involved in a joint operation to remove the body of a man identified as being local by police from an area of the Orme beneath the lighthouse at Pen-y-Gogarth.
Holyhead Coastguard were alerted to the body at 1:50pm by the Go Tango jetboat, and informed Conwy Lifeboat and North Wales Police of the body's location.
The lifeboat, who were on exercise at time of the call, put two of their volunteers ashore to ascertain the fatality.
A rescue helicopter from RAF Valley was used to retrieve the body, and it was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd for an official pronouncement.
A statement from North Wales Police said the man's family have been informed.
The coroner's office said an inquest will be held in due course.
