CONWY Council have agreed to purchase Colwyn Bay Pier.

During a closed meeting yesterday (Wednesday), full Council voted to support Cabinet's proposal to bid for full ownership of the derelict pier, which is currently in the hands of administrators Royce, Peeling and Green Ltd (RPG).

Negotiations on the agreement are now expected to get underway.

Assembly Member Darren Millar was pleased with the result.

He said: "This is a step in the right direction, the Pier has been an eyesore on the waterfront in Colwyn Bay for far too long and is letting the town’s regeneration efforts down.
"I’m hopeful that the Council’s decision will help in the push to resolve this issue once and for all.
"I will be pressing the Welsh Government to ensure that they support the Council in its endeavours and will be working with the Minister and other stakeholders to explore channels of funding which might be available to support them."

No mention of the future of the pier. I fear it’s curtains for the old lady & I for one will be sad to see her go. Mr Hunts efforts will be in vein. Such a fiasco in the last six years or so, goodbye my treasured memories & hello to a pier less Colwyn Bay.
