RESIDENTS across Conwy start their new recycling collection service next week as the county council steps up its recycling efforts.

50,000 households across Conwy have now received their new recycling containers as part of the Recycle More programme, with the new schedule of collections starting next week on Monday, June 20.

The new programme, which aims to save £600,000 in reduced landfill and see Conwy households recycle more than 50% of it’s waste, will see food waste,  plastics, cardboard, cans, glass, paper, batteries and general waste collected weekly from the kerbside.

Cllr Mike Priestley, Cabinet Member for Environment, said “Residents have been asking for food waste, plastics and cardboard collections for some time and we are pleased to now offer this comprehensive service that will dramatically reduce the amount of waste we bury in landfill, in particular food waste which gives off harmful methane gas.”

Waste will also now be collected from the kerbside by one recycling vehicle, further helping the environment by reducing fuel costs and ensuring all materials collected are recycled.

Kelly Williams an IT Support Officer from Abergele, said: “My new set of containers arrived two weeks ago and I have been filling them ready for next week.

“I have been looking forward to the new service since I heard about it and as a keen recycler I’m delighted to be able to recycle most of my household waste, and every week which is far more convenient.

“I imagine I will only need to put our bin out once a month from now on”.
