AN elderly couple fear they will be split up after being told their care home is to close.
Residents at Oak Lodge Care Home in Towyn were left distraught after they were given 28 days notice.
Oak Lodge went into administration last year and is due to close on August 8 because of cash flow problems.
Gail Hackett from Prestatyn, whose father Roy Sawyer, 77 and mother, Mary, 76, both live in the home, fear the closure will split her parents.
She said: “My mother is elderly and mentally infirm, so she has continued healthcare needs. My father is residential, and very upset and concerned. I’m trying to find somewhere they can stay together, as he doesn’t want to be separated from his wife.”
Mrs Hackett, who is currently caring for her husband who recently underwent an operation, is now afraid that her parents may have to move away to stay together.
She said: “They have been together over 60 years. It would be a real wrench if he can’t be with her. We’ve been very lucky to get them into the same home. This has been a real bombshell.”
Mrs Hackett described the atmosphere in the home, which can cater for 29 residents, as “shellshocked”.
“A couple of people have relatives here in their mid 90s and a move won’t help them at all. The sad thing is that my dad was happy. The staff have been fantastic.”
Mr Sawyer said that with just three weeks to go, the family were looking at care homes all around the area.
He said: “My wife gets distressed as she has Alzheimer’s, and she needs nursing. I don’t know what I’ll do if we can’t move together.
Zolfo Cooper, the company appointed administrator, said that no buyer had been found for the care company and they had been left with no choice but to begin the process of closing Oak Lodge.
Spokesman Nick Cropper said: “We understand this is a time of uncertainty for those involved but we will do all we can to ensure disruption to residents is kept to a minimum as they transfer to their new accommodation.
“We would like thank staff for their continued professionalism and dedication during this difficult time.”
