David Tennant, one of Britain's most loved television stars after playing "The Doctor" in the long standing series Doctor Who, is set to appear on the big screen in a remake of the 1980's cult movie Fright Night. Although not everyone's cup of tea the original Fright Night is hailed as one of the best horror/comedy movies of all time, with a 93% rating on the notorious picky and critical Rotten Tomatoes website.
Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin – Star Trek, Terminator Salvation) a popular boy in his local community, become suspicious that his new next door neighbour Jerry (Colin Farrell – Alexander, Daredevil, In Bruges) is actually a vampire who is preying on the people of his neighbourhood. Charley recruits Peter Vincent (David Tennant – Doctor Who) a self confessed vampire hunter to help him investigate and deal with the situation.
Combining the genres of comedy and horror, the Fright Night movie is not a typical horror be slightly ridiculous, as the original was as well. This adds to the appeal of the movie and gives it an extra dimension rather than just straight horror!
David Tenant originally shot to fame in the UK playing the leading role in Doctor Who "The Doctor". Tennant lead the long running television series for three full series' between 2005 and 2010 and became Doctor Who magazine's Best Doctor in 2006 over the long standing favourite Tom Baker ("The Doctor" between 1974 to 1981), a massive coup in the Doctor Who fan world. Tennant soon became a star in the UK and in 2008 was voted at the 6th sexiest man in the women's magazine Cosmopolitan survey.
Since leaving Doctor Who ion 2010, David Tennant has been involved in a number of different initiatives including radio plays and narration as well as being involved in theatre work. He is currently starring in "Much Ado About Nothing" at London's Wyndham Theatre alongside one time Doctor Who co-star Catherine Tate.
Tenant also starred in the Royal Shakespeare Company's "Hamlet" in 2008-2009, showing his versatility across different types of acting both live and on television. He also is involved in a number of different projects both on radio including plays and chat shows and narration work.
In 2008 David Tennant was included in the top 20 most influential people in show business by "The Stage" magazine, only the fifth actor in history to reach the top 20. One of the list's panel mentioned that it was because David Tennant was "the biggest box office draw in recent memory"
Fright Night 2011 is David Tennant's first foray into a large scale Hollywood movie, and may present his opportunity to break into the US, one of the hallowed few British actors to make the cut including Catherine Zeta Jones and Keira Knightly
Fright Night is released in UK cinemas on 2nd September 2011.
