COLWYN BAY’S miserable mid-season slump continued on Saturday in a seven wicket defeat to Rainford.

The Bay scored 179 all out in 58 overs, with a belligerent 44 off 113 balls from Zac Gidlow the top score of the day.

Early losses had the Bay struggling on 23 for three, before Jordan Evans and Gidlow paired up to add 33.

Graham Jones then helped steady the ship with the Bay’s young batsman to take the score to 113 for Gidlow’s wicket, before Paul Jenkins fired off a late 18, including four fours, to bump up the score.

After the interval, Mike Bates took the first wicket with the scoreboard reading 32, but a second wicket partnership worth 54 put the hosts firmly in control.

Paul Jenkins and Bates again both took a wicket each, but the Bay had no answer for Rainford’s Mark Williams, who smashed 15 boundaries and scored 86 off 102 balls in a match deciding performance.

Williams smashed a six to seal the win, as the Bay slid to seventh in the Liverpool Competition Premier Division.

The Bay will be hoping to get their season back on track when they travel to Newton-le-Willows on Saturday.
