MIKE BATES took five wickets on Saturday as Colwyn Bay returned to winning ways against Newton-le-Willows.

The Kiwi set the tone by taking a wicket with the first ball of the day, going on to finish on five for 38 from 16 overs, including five maidens.

Regular wickets saw Newton-le-Willows post just 70 runs from 31 overs, with Paul Jenkins taking three for ten in eight overs, whilst Tom Roberts and Ryan Holtby also struck.

With victory in sight, Carwyn Williams and Dave Taylor steadily added runs to edge closer to their modest target.

Taylor top scored on 28 and Williams added 23 for their respective wickets, with Jordan Evans and Sion Morris pairing up to rack up the match winning runs, wrapping up victory in the 17th over.
