New Brighton 139 all out
Colwyn Bay 140-3
Colwyn Bay won by seven wickets
COLWYN BAY wound down their rollercoaster campaign at the weekend with a comfortable victory over New Brighton.
Bowlers Ryan Holtby and Paul Jenkins starred with all ten wickets as the visitors were skittled out for 140; Jenkins finishing on six for 61, whilst Holtby took four for the same total.
Carwyn Williams and Dave Taylor made 67 for the latter’s wicket, whilst the former added another 20 before departing.
Sion Morris added 15, before the partnership of Jordan Evans (35) and Zac Gidlow (7) polished off the winning runs.
The firsts complete their season next week with a trip to second placed Leigh.
THE SECONDS sealed the First Division title despite losing out away to Ainsdale.
Dave Wallace’s men took eight wickets as the hosts scored 158 runs, a total the Bay missed by just ten runs in response.
With second placed Leigh drawing their match, the Bay secured promotion as Champions with a game to spare, with celebrations coming this weekend with a home match against their title rivals.
THE THIRDS enter their final game of the season in a three-way dogfight to avoid relegation from the Sunday Premier League.
A 125 run weekend defeat to Orrell Red Triangle leaves the Bay, along with Bootle and Rainhill, facing down the barrel in their final league matches.
Arthur Jones took the key wicket of Orrell’s top scorer Mark Waddington as they set a total of 250 for five.
Andy Spillane top scored with 41, but a lack of traction at the crease saw Colwyn Bay fall well short.
The Bay now enter a showdown with Rainhill on Sunday, whilst Bootle host champions Highfield.
