FARMERS have been warned to be on their guard following reports that a small number of them have received telephone cold calls asking for personal details and money to join a Farm Watch scheme.

Inspector Tony Latham of the North Wales police said; “These are incidents of concern and I would ask our farming communities to be vigilant and ensure that you do not reveal any personal details. North Wales Police encourages participation in Farm Watch schemes, but these are operated locally.

We are keen to keep trust and confidence in the legitimate schemes. "

Farm Watch schemes are run using funds from community safety and other funding schemes.

Anyone receiving these calls is advised to dial 1471 immediately after the call, record the telephone number given and then contact the police on 101.

For more advice or details about the scheme contact the Farm Watch liaison officers, at http://www.north-wales.police.uk/advicesupport/homesecurity/farmwatch.aspx
