COLWYN BAY’S season ended in a washout at the weekend after their trip to Leigh was abandoned.
While the game had little impact on Colwyn Bay’s fortunes, it did scupper Leigh’s title hopes, with Ormskirk and Northern topping the Lancashire side with first and second place finishes.
After a promising start, a mid-season slump saw the Bay finish seventh in the Liverpool Competition table, with Jordan Evans the only batsman in the Premiership’s top 25 run scorers with a finishing total of 556 from 20 games.
Kiwi Mike Bates finished as the division’s eighth best bowler for the year with 46 wickets, including a best performance of six for 23, whilst Ryan Holtby also made the top 25 with 34 wickets.
The Seconds game was also rained off, but the abandonment failed to put a dampener on their title celebrations after cruising to the Seconds Division One title.
Seventh ranked Arthur Jones and Ethan Ray were both listed among the league’s top bowlers, whilst Dafydd Rhys finished as the top scorer for the division with 692 runs, joined by Ray, skipper Dave Wallace and Chris Rowley in the top ten.
But there were no celebrations for the third XI, who were relegated after losing their three-way scrap against the drop.
With another weekend cancellation, the Bay were relegated by the narrowest of margins, tying with Rainhill who survived by the skin of their teeth.
