BOTH local Huws Gray Alliance sides lost out at the weekend as both Llandudno Town and Conwy United went down in 3-1 defeats.

Llandudno got off to a confusing start in their game with Flint Town United after being made to wear the hosts away shirts due to a clash of colours, and things went from bad to worse for Town when Phil Lloyd’s curling effort gave Flint the lead on 15 minutes.

United went 2-0 up through an unfortunate Wyn Williams own goal, but Llandudno pulled a goal back just before the break when John Hill through another own goal, with John Hill heading home Lee Jones’ free kick.

A frustrating second half saw Llandudno’s forward forays fizzle out, with Flint soaking up pressure and looking to hit Llandudno on the break.

The defeat was confirmed ten minutes from time after the impressive Lloyd brought the ball forward before teeing up Paul Williams to slot home, and it could have been 4-1 but for a superb save by Dave Guinn from a John Rush effort.

Tudno welcome Caersws this weekend looking for a similar performance to the side that beat Rhyl last week, before travelling to play Wrexham based Venture Community FC in the first round of the Welsh Cup.

Conwy were also beaten on the road at the weekend, with Ruthin Town scooping a 3-1 win over the Castlemen.

The hosts took advantage of a swirling wind to lump high balls into the Conwy box, going ahead in the ninth minute through Jack Jones.

Conwy came close to drawing level when Paul Cassidy saw his chance cleared off the line, and the miss was to prove costly when Ruthin doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, with Adam Jenkins taking advantage after Gary Higham failed to deal with another hanging cross.

Better second half conditions allowed Conwy to start passing the ball, with some patient play finally delivering a goal as Cassidy prodded in a Joe Williams ball.

United created a number of chances but failed to find the leveller, and a Ruthin counter-attack led to Davies netting his second of the game, tapping in after a save from Higham.

The Welsh Cup draw sees Conwy travel to Caersws in a fortnight’s time, following this weekend’s visit from Penrhyncoch.
