A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after breaking her ankle at the top of a tower in Caernarfon Castle yesterday.
The woman, 59, who is believed to be from Conwy, was airlifted off the castle by the RAF Valley Search and Rescue helicopter, after paramedics and firefighters were called to the incident at 12.37pm.
Head custodian of Caernarfon Castle, Tristian Jones, said the woman and her family had only just arrived when the accident happened.
“She had climbed the tower and was at the top when she fell and injured her ankle,’ he said.
“Access is extremely limited in the tower and the paramedics and the firefighters decided the safest option to get her out and to hospital was to call in 22 squadron from Valley.”
A spokesman for North Wales Fire Service said they assisted a 59-year-old female who was airlifted off the castle and flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd after suffering a broken ankle.
