GLAN CONWY won a dramatic penalty shoot-out with Holywell Town to reach the second round of the Cookson Cup.

Two goals in the space of two first half minutes from Mereck Knight and Gavin Roberts put Glan in control, but a last minute Tony Roebuck goal saw things finish 2-2 at full time.

Town then edged ahead in extra time, but Andy Booker responded immediately after the restart to restore parity with the game going to spot kicks.

In the shoot-out Arron Peel saved Sam Jones’ effort, before Ben Thomas netted to seal a 5-4 win.

Llandudno Junction crashed out in a 3-0 defeat to Bethesda Athletic at the Flyover Ground, while Penmaenmawr Phoenix succeeded in their Take Stock Van Hire Cup match, beating Amlwch Town 3-2 thanks to Shane Jones, Henley Caldecott and an own goal.

In the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League, missed chances cost Rhos United dear as Abergele Dragons picked up a 2-1 win.

Rhos missed a penalty and a host of chances before Jake Walker netted a double to put the Dragons in charge.

Jay Lynch added a consolation from a goalmouth scramble in the final minute, but it proved to be little too late for United.

Mochdre Sports were edged out in a seven goal thriller with Rhyl Athletic, who snatched the points with two late goals.

Danny Jones and Josh Pierce-Jones netted in the first half to see Sports 2-1 up at the break, and Aaron Boyle netted what looked to be the winner in the 88th minute after Rhyl had pulled level 10 minutes earlier.

But a Jamie Foxbyrne strike 60 seconds later, followed by Ray Thomas’ second of the game in the 90th minute, cruelly took the points from Mochdre.

Old Colwyn picked up another big win by beating Bro Cernyw 6-1, with Jamie Warburton, Joel Hughes and Sean Taylor-Lewis all netting two each.

Betws Yn Rhos lost out 2-0 to Cerrigydrudion, whilst Rhyl Hearts won by the same scoreline against West Shore.
