ENGINEERING work will start soon start on a vital sea defence wall despite an apparent lack of funds.

Sea defences on the Great Orme, Llandudno, are to receive repairs at an estimated cost of £350,000.

A report submitted to the Cabinet of Conwy County Borough Council in early September revealed that a routine inspection had discovered a partially collapsed section of the wall, which protects a cliff face which in turn supports a section of road near the Happy Valley.

Although the issue of the wall's ownership was unresolved, the cabinet resolved to undertake remedial repair work on the wall and return it to its previous condition before the onset of winter storms, which would likely damage the wall further.

Cabinet members were also informed that Conwy's Capital Programme Monitoring Group had met to discuss funding options for the repairs, as there were no remaining funds under the capital programme for the scheme.

They agreed to delegate authority for finding funds for the project to Andrew Kirkham, acting corporate director and head of financial services, and Cllr Meirion Hughes, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources.
