TOWN councillors have clashed over how best to treat a village playground.
A row broke out while Llandudno Town Council members were discussing the Penrhyn Hill recreation area, in Penrhynside.
Issues surrounding the recreation area had been raised at a meeting of the town council’s finance and general purposes committee in September.
During a discussion over providing £3,000 match-funding for the Princes Green park in Penrhyn Bay, the committee decided to seek quotes for the possible relocation of equipment from the Penrhyn Hill park.
While the committee agreed to match the council funding, the discussion of the Penrhyn Hill park drew divisions among some town councillors.
Cllr Brian Bertola, a representative of Tudno ward, said during the meeting that the park was considered dangerous by members of the community, and that the equipment there could have been put to better use in other parks.
He said: “Perhaps the ward members of Penrhyn Bay could get together and put an end to the dangerous location for the play site.”
Cllr Linda Groom, a representative of Penrhyn ward, said she would oppose any movement of the equipment, and said the park was still used by village residents.
She said: “There’s no reason to move it. Just because it’s not used as much as other parks doesn’t say it’s not used at all. “
Cllr Groom added that she had been left “very cross” that Cllr Bertola had investigated the issue in her ward.
She said: “What I object to is a councillor in another ward carrying out a campaign like this in my ward when he’s got work he could be doing in his own. If I felt something needed doing in somebody else’s ward, I would tell them.”
