A PENSIONER is outraged that street lights in his neighbourhood have been left on throughout the day for three weeks.
Victor Harper says the overhead lighting in his street, Ffordd Maelor, and a number of nearby roads in the Maesydre area, have been on continually for about three weeks.
He said: “It’s just a complete waste of electricity and money.
“I’m trying really hard to recycle everything I can and to conserve energy by turning my lights and electrical goods off.
“But it all seems futile when you look out into the street and these massive overhead lights, which must use up much more power, are left on for weeks on end.”
Mr Harper, who is 94, has lobbied his local councillor Carole O’Toole, who represents the Maesydre ward.
She said: “This is a problem which has affected a number of streets across the estate for a couple of weeks now.
“I have been doing what I can and Wrexham Council is dealing with the situation by installing 30 lights with new cells which needed replacing.”
John Bradbury, the council’s head of environment said: “Due to recent alterations carried out by Scottish Power the street lights in the area are on throughout the day.
“As a result Wrexham Council is having to install photocells in the streetlights to eliminate this problem.
“These works will be carried out as soon as possible."
A Scottish Power spokesman said: “There was some work carried out in that area which meant the lights were left on for a 24-hour burn. It’s the council that puts in the photocells to ensure the lights go on and off.”
