A BURGLAR escaped empty-handed after an early morning raid on a pawn shop.

Damage costing more than £400 to repair was caused when the front window of Buy It Sell It Pawn It in Mold was smashed with a brick and a reinforced display cabinet was damaged.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which took place just before 6am yesterday.

The shop on Wrexham Road has been open for seven months. Owner Graham Walker said: “It was an attempted smash-and-grab. They have not taken anything.

“We have good CCTV and an alarm system. It all worked as well as it could.

“I am relived nothing was taken but there was a lot of damage.

“The damage to the window and the cabinet is between £400 and £500.”

The cabinet, made with reinforced glass, was hit with such force it was knocked over.

Mr Walker, who has handed over CCTV footage to the police, said: “All our items are coded and there is no point taking anything as it will all come to light when trying to sell them.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We were called to a property on Wrexham Street, Mold, at 9.52am following reports a window had been smashed.

“The incident is being treated as a burglary and enquiries are under way.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who might have any information about it should contact PC Matthew Stephens at Mold Police Station on 101 (if in Wales), on 0845 6071002 (English) or on 0845 6071001 (Welsh)

"Individuals can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously with information on 0800 555 111.”
