PEOPLE are being warned to watch out for an email scam.
The message claims the sender has been mugged in Madrid and needs money to get home.
The message has been sent from several BT email addresses based in Llandudno and Colwyn Bay.
The email says: “Unfortunately I got mugged at the park of the hotel where I stayed. I misplaced my wallet on my way back to my hotel after I went for sight seeing. The wallet contained all the valuables I had. Now my passport is in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment.
“I will be indeed very grateful if i can get a loan of 2,650 Euros from you. this will enable me sort my hotel bills and get my sorry self back home.”
It then asks for the money to be transfered through Western Union and is signed by the sender.
A spokesman from BT said they were aware of the scam and warned people not to divulge any information and to make sure their virus software is up to date.
