STORES have received mixed tidings in the run-up to Christmas with a new shop opening, a store threatened with closure staying put, and the closure of a shop which had been in the town since the 1930s.
Women’s clothing chain Country Casuals confirmed they would be moving into a store at 68 Mostyn Street, a Grade II listed building. The retailers will refurbish the interior of the store although the move will not take place until next year.
Supermarket chain Iceland, which said it was to close its store on Mostyn Champneys retail park, is to stay open after agreeing a new deal with its landlords.
Pauline Begley, marketing co-ordinator for Iceland, said: “We can confirm that the Iceland store at Mostyn Champney Retail Park was due to close on November 5 due to heavy overheads.
“However, after discussions with the landlords we are delighted to able to confirm that we will be remaining open and that the store will be refitted in the very near future.”
She added that the supermarket is recruiting for approximately 10 new positions, including part time cashiers, drivers and cleaners.
This week also saw the closure of Burtons Menswear, at 81 Mostyn Street, which opened in 1934. The store was opened by company founder Montague Burton, and a plaque within the store commemorates the opening.
Coffee chain Caffe Nero confirmed they would be opening an outlet at the store, but were unable to confirm a date.
