A CLOCK-UP left a prominent Conwy timepiece running an hour late for a week.
The clock at St Mary’s and All Saints Church, Conwy, automatically set itself back an hour a week before the clocks went back on Sunday.
The clock is programmed to adjust for daylight savings time on the fourth Sunday in October, rather than the last Sunday in the month.
But in 2002, new EU directives ruled that clocks in the United Kingdom would change from British Summer Time back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on the last Sunday in October causing malfunctions to clocks such as those in Conwy if there were five Sundays in the month.
Helen Armitage, the clerk for Conwy Town Council, said they had asked the clock’s makers, JB Joyce & Co of Whitchurch, for a quote to update the programming to the new settings.
JB Joyce & Co, who claim to be the oldest clockmakers in the world, also crafted such iconic timepieces as the Eastgate Clock in Chester and the clock at the Royal Exchange in Manchester.
