Plumbing courses and other vocational training on the rise as University applicants drop

Recent reports from the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS) have shown that the number of applications for university places has dropped 12% from last year.  With this drop it appears that many students may have been deterred by the government’s decision to allow university’s to charge up to £9,000 per year.

Sally Hunt, general secretary of the University and College Union has said that this move has been a “disaster from start to finish. It is clearly having an impact on the choices young people make.”

Currently the average cost of a university degree is £8,678.36 per year, which many say is putting many students off who do not want to be left with a mountain of debt once they graduate.

This begs the question as to what other options are available for those who still want a rewarding career without the high costs of university.

The answer is simple: vocational courses!

At a fraction of the total cost of a university degree, vocational courses such as plumbing courses, gas courses and electrical training all offer rewarding careers once completed -  many of which are even free.

Employers are now frequently not only looking for the right qualifications but also applicants with previous experience in the industry.  This happens to be a benefit of many vocational courses as “on-site” training is now required to complete the qualification, providing graduates with both experience and qualifications.

There is now a wide variety of vocational courses available ranging from the well known trade courses such as plumbing and electrical to nursing and law.

As a provider of electrical, gas and plumbing courses we offer a selection of training courses which provide on-site training coupled with industry recognised qualifications to give our trainees the best chance of starting a successful and rewarding career.  Courses which include hands on experience include; the level 2 NVQ Diploma in plumbing and heating and the level 3 registered gas installer’s course.

All of our courses are completed in bespoke training facilities based in Birmingham city centre and Greater Manchester and can be undertaken either on a full time or part time basis. Call us free today on 0800 331 7500 or visit our website at www.rftraining.co.uk.
