MUTTS and pedigrees will rub shoulders in a Macmillan fundraising dogshow.

Petula Field, 51 of Rhyl, has set up a Companion Dog Show in Kinmel Bay Leisure Centre on November 27 in aid of the cancer charity.

Petula, who is raising funds in the name of her friend Romayne Freer, a cancer survivor in her 70s, said: "There are 30 classes with something for everyone, pedigree, handling and novelty classes. So even if you don’t have a pedigree dog or yours is just a pet you can still come along and enter.

“I was inspired to support Macmillan Cancer Care by my friend Romayne. This wonderful lady who lives on Anglesey has been showing dogs for over 50 years and earlier this year had to have a mastectomy and is still undergoing treatment at a local hospice. My father in law was cared for by Macmillan Nurses prior to his death from lung cancer and I know several other people who have also been supported by Macmillan.”

Romayne, who has already contended with major heart surgery, was diagnosed with cancer early this year, a situation Petula described as "very tough".

The dog show, which will be held under Kennel Club rules, opens at 9.30am, and involves serious categories such as Best in show, and novelty competitions, such as most appealing eyes, dog most like its owner and waggiest tail.

Rosettes and prize cards will be given out to competitors reaching first to fifth place, and entry fees cost £1 per class.

Petula said: “Should any local businesses wish to donate prizes either for major winners or for the raffle then all donations would be gratefully received.”
