BLOG work which received worldwide praise has earned a Wrexham school an award for excellence.

The honour for Alexandra Community Primary School has been made in recognition of the creative use of information and communication technology (ICT) in an international school partnership.

It has been awarded by the British Council in conjunction with the national centre for languages CILT Cymru.

Year five teacher Mike Elliott and 10 children from years five and six travelled to Cardiff to receive the award.

Mr Elliott along with the pupils have been creating and updating a blog where the children showcase their work.

The teacher then asks his followers on Twitter to respond. People from all around the world have commented on the children’s blog including Australia, South Korea, America and Argentina.

Youngsters have also taken part in a quadblog which includes two schools from England and one from Canada.

Mr Elliott said the blog has inspired children in school to write stories, showcase their work and learn about other people and other countries and cultures.

Pupils who went along to receive the award at the ceremony also took part in a number of workshops including learning Tai Chi.
