THERE was major disruption in Mold as hundreds of businesses and homes were struck by a power cut yesterday.
Shops in High Street, New Street and Wrexham Street were forced to turn away customers after being left without electricity.
Security alarms, CCTV cameras and traffic lights were all affected and police officers had to control traffic at the crossroads between High Street and New Street.
Kathy Bebb, who works at McColl’s newsagents, said takings would be down due to the power cut.
“Monday morning is one of our busiest trading times so we are going to lose out,” she said.
“The power was on first thing in the morning then all of a sudden everything went out at about 8.15am.
“I rang the power company and there was a recording which said the power should be back on by 11.30am.”
Scottish Power said between 200 and 300 customers were affected by the power cut which was caused by a faulty cable.
Engineers took about 45 minutes to restore electricity.
Chris Davies, manager of phone shop Get Connected, said: “It is inconvenient because we need to use computers for most of our sales.
“Luckily we are able to trade manually which means we could still serve some customers.”
Mold town centre manager Dave Hill said: “It didn’t have a major impact and I think people thought it was just one of those things.”
A spokesman for Scottish Power said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the power outage which was due to a high voltage cable fault.
“Our engineers were alerted to the outage at 8.15am and everybody was back on at 9am.”
