AN ANIMAL rescue centre has been inundated with calls from people wanting to adopt a puppy cruelly abandoned near a railway line.
Eight-month-old Border collie Kate was found tied to a post alongside the busy Holyhead to Chester line at Greenfield, near Holywell, on Thursday, November 17.
The traumatised puppy was taken in by Flintshire Wildlife and Pet Rescue in Holywell where she is recovering from her ordeal.
Founder Elfyn Pierce-Jones has received more than 30 calls from potential new owners since the Leader ran the story on Tuesday.
He said: “Unfortunately by law Kate cannot be re-homed for 21 days in case her original owners come forward, so we will not be looking to give her away until December.
“The process now is that we will speak to these potential new owners individually, invite them to come and meet Kate and then make a decision on who is most-suited.
“It will depend on whether we think we can trust the new new owners and how well they interact with Kate.”
Next week Kate will be taken to a vet to be microchipped and for vaccinations
When chosen her new owner will be asked to make a donation to the centre to cover the cost of the vet’s bill.
Mr Pierce-Jones said: “Kate is brilliant and so full of life. She is very friendly and is now best friends with our dog.
“She wants attention all of the time. For the time we have cared for her she has made us very happy.”
Mr Pierce-Jones said he had turned away a couple who were trying to get rid of the puppy just moments before she was found by a woman walking her own dogs.
North Wales Police and RSPCA officials have been informed of the incident.
