A PANTOMIME has become a victim of today’s public sector strikes.

The Civic Hall Amateur Players Society in Conwy had to cancel this evening’s performance of Cinders which is scheduled to run for five nights.

Vice chair Margaret Norwood said the cancellation had caused the group a “major problem” and she feared the group would make a loss unless strong crowds turned out for the remaining four performances.

The council has had to close the hall because the cleaner will be joining the strike called by the public sector workers union Unison over planned changes to pensions.

Mrs Norwood said: “We are anxious that as many people as possible come to the other performances or we risk making a loss. We’ve budgeted for five nights”

Mrs Norwood said she hoped those intending to attend tonight would now switch to Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s performances.

“We now need full houses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon.

“If we could get some good crowds it won’t be a problem. The bookings are about half full, but we very much reply on people who turn up on the night. We don’t want to let anyone down, and we’ll be there on the night to let anyone who doesn’t find out know.”

The performance start at 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday night, and 2.30pm on Saturday.
