MORE than 30 news jobs could be created if plans for a £6 million hotel get the go-ahead.

Development contractor Worthington Properties has submitted plans to Wrexham Council for a new Premier Inn on the former Jacques scrapyard site off Mold Road.

They say the development would create 33 full and part time jobs on the site of a former scrapyard, which is described as an eyesore.

If the planning application is successful work will begin on the site in May next year with the building expected to be completed within 12 months.

The hotel would include 83 bedrooms in a purpose-built four-storey building, together with a ground floor restaurant.

There will also be 83 car parking spaces for guests.

Worthington Properties development director Russell Worthington said: “The site is a former scrapyard, which is ideal for regeneration.

“The proposed development will bring a brownfield site back into use, providing a valuable boost to the economy and delivering new jobs to the area in the process.”

Phil Wynn, councillor for the Brynyffynnon ward on Wrexham Council, said: “The arrival of a budget hotel in the town centre is long overdue and will greatly enhance the visual appeal of a site which has been an eyesore for far too long.”

The plans are to be considered by Wrexham Council.

What next?? Has nobody noticed that the immediate area accommodates two railway bridges and a motor body repair shop. I'd be very interested to see how this potential 'woops, we got it wrong' situation works out..

Wasn't there supposed to be a Premier Inn or similar built on the other 'Wrexham Eyesore' that is the wasteland on the corner of Bridge Street and St. Giles' Way? What ever happened to that?

Within spitting distance of the railway station and football ground would seem an ideal location. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.

This is exactly what the town needs.... 83 business visitors spending money during the week and 166 tourists at the weekend. It also reflects the poor value of the Wynstay site..but that is another story.

Wrexham does need extra accomodation for tourists and visitors so this scheme sounds like a sensible proposal. 33 jobs at an 83 room hotel - is that the normal staff to room ratio?

Good news! AT least someone has confidence in the town not like the local people

It's great that mold road site is being developed, an eysore from Kwik fit to the old esso. This should have been an opportunity for the council to regenrate this whole area along with the bridges, how many more years do we put up with those dirtty strength barriers occupying the footbridge by the site. Good for tourism and jobs, extra parking for the station, maybe a footpath to Watery Road

GAL/Mews, good to see some positive comments, this is the type of thing the town needs to move on, sadly we have to many moaners and whingers who just want to hold the area back for some reason.
