A GROUP of youngsters have been praised for splitting their Christmas funds with a hospice.
Young people living at Isallt, a Llandudno-based Supported Living Scheme for young homeless people, organised a coffee morning to raise funds so that they could all enjoy Christmas together.
They made decorations, baked cakes and donned Santa costumes to welcome guests to the house.
But when the event raised £136, they insisted on giving £70 to St David’s Hospice.
A spokesperson from the hospice said: “These young people are remembering the true meaning of Christmas and we very much appreciate their support.”
Kevin Hughes, Director of Care and Support at Clwyd Alyn, paid tribute to the decision made by the residents to split their funds with a charity - especially given the fact that they would be facing a difficult Christmas Day themselves.
He said: “It is easy to forget that there are many young people living in our local areas for whom Christmas is a very difficult time indeed. It is genuinely moving that the young people from Isallt are working together, not only to make their own Christmas special, but also to help others.”
Linda Hughes, senior project officer for the scheme, said: “For all of their own challenging experiences - all of them have either been homeless in the past, or were at risk of becoming homeless - they are very much aware of those who are less well off than themselves."
Isallt is managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Society in partnership with Conwy County Council, and provides one-to-one support and single accommodation for 12 young people.
