NEWBRIDGE have applied for promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.
The Penbont Field club have followed the route of Spar Mid Wales League One’s top two - Montgomery Town and Rhayader Town - in applying for membership of the northern second tier of Welsh football.
Now the club must maintain their excellent form in the second part of the season, in order to secure the top two finish required to make the step up to the higher league.
Just this month the club received £7,000 towards their ground drainage scheme, which forms the latest part of ambitious plans to upgrade their facilities.
It is a far cry from the club’s struggles in the first part of the 21st century when only the endeavour of club officials managed to keep the club alive in the Mid Wales League (South.)
The club were promoted to the Spar Mid Wales League in 2005 and have been an ever present since, while annually upgrading their facilities.
Montgomery Town and Rhayader Town are the other Spar Mid Wales League clubs to apply, while Holyhead Hotspur, Holywelll Town and Caernarfon Town have applied from the Welsh Alliance. The Welsh National League - which covers North East Wales - has seen Mold Alexandra, Corwen, Rhydymwyn and Venture Community apply
