LLANDUDNO Rugby Club broke their duck for the season at the twelfth time of asking as returning former skipper Rhodri Carlton Jones inspired a 26-10 win over Mold.
Carlton-Jones, who played with permission from Rhyl whose weekend game was cancelled, kicked three penalties and a conversion, as Llandudno took advantage of finally being able to field a full set of forwards following a series of injury-ravaged matches.
Scrum-half Tom Hocknell opened the scoring, but Mold struck back a penalty to make it 7-3.
Lloyd Owen touched down either side of the interval to stretch Llandudno’s lead, and Carlton-Jones’ penalty kicks made sure of a priceless victory.
NANT CONWY lost ground at the summit of the Swalec League One North table in a titanic tussle with fellow title hopefuls Caernarfon.
The Cofis edged it 13-12, and built up an imposing 10-0 lead after dominating the opening 25 minutes, but Aeron Jones polished off a flowing move to touch down between the posts on 32 minutes and bring Nant back into the contest.
Nant flanker Gareth Jones caught the home defence napping with a quick penalty 20 meters out, and touched down for a converted try to put the valley boys in the lead.
But a second half penalty from Kelvin Morris proved the decider, as Caernarfon held out for the win.
COLWYN BAY Rugby Club also started 2012 with a bang, thrashing Wrexham 38-0.
