WEST SHORE 1
LLANNEFYDD 1
A LATE goal meant that Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One top dogs Llannefydd were forced to settle for a point during their first runout of 2012.
Travelling to West Shore, Llannefydd looked a bit rusty for their first game back after a four-week break.
There were not that many goalscoring opportunities in the first half, although the best chance for Llan came from left winger Sam Jones, whose shot went over the bar.
A good save from Llannefydd goalkeeper Ifan Roberts prevented the hosts from going into the interval in front.
At the break Llan were forced to make a substitution, with Tom Sheridan replacing the injured Alun Roberts.
The match opened up in the second half with both teams having opportunities to open the scoring.
It was Llannefydd who managed to break the deadlock midway through the second half after Kevin Rickard's excellent early cross found Sam Jones at the far post.
Jones’ shot came back off the keeper, but Ally Stubbs was in the right place to slot home the opener.
West Shore missed a couple of good chances as keeper Roberts saved well.
In the closing stages West Shore got their equaliser from one of a number of corners, with Gareth Leach netting.
Overall, the draw was a fair outcome and Llannefydd’s star man was Kevin Rickard.
