Nant Conwy 13 Bro Ffestiniog 15
NANT CONWY’S title hopes were dealt another blow at the weekend after losing out an even clash with third placed Bro Ffestiniog.
The two sides traded penalty kicks for the opening scores, with Carwyn ap Myrddyn successfully converting for Nant, and hooker Eryl Jones crossed over after a succession of mauls to give Nant a 10-3 half-time lead.
Bro struck back 18 minutes into the second half, and though Myrddyn added a superb penalty from roughly 45 meters to restore Nant’s lead, Bro scored a carbon copy of their first try to win the match 15-13.
Nant will be out to stop the rot with an away match against Bala this Saturday.
Bethesda 26 Llandudno 15
LLANDUDNO were unable to follow up last week’s win with another positive result after battling to a 26-15 defeat against Bethesda.
Tudno took the opportunity to blood a number of junior players from the North Wales Academy into their senior squad, with the youngsters giving a good account of themselves in an even contest.
Some quick handling allowed centre Dave Davies to give Llandudno the lead, but a series of missed chances allowed the Pesda back into the contest.
Llandudno kept up the pressure though with Arfon Bagshaw slotting over a penalty and captain Ed Weston breaking through to set up winger James Gregson for another try.
But after striking two first half penalties, Bethesda stepped up their game to win the contest in the second half, adding two tries and another penalty to deny Tudno a losing bonus point.
Colwyn Bay 0 Dolgellau 23
COLWYN Bay’s rollercoaster fortunes continued as a defeat to top of the league Dolgellau all but ended their promotion aspirations.
After racking up four wins from their first four home matches, a dip in form at their Brookefield Drive home has seen the Seahorses lose their last three host fixtures.
Visiting Full back Tom Roberts starred by kicking a brace of first half goals and adding a try, two conversions and a penalty in the second period to seal the points, with replacement wing Tristan Evans completed the scoring with a late try.
The Bay travel to Machynlleth this weekend looking to make it four straight wins on the road.
