READERS are being urged to support frontline troops in Afghanistan by sending them much-needed little luxuries.
Councillors Mike Priestley and Merfyn Thomas have launched the Operation Afghanistan Goodies Appeal 2012, and are calling on Pioneer readers and Conwy residents to take part.
The goodies, which will be sent to the Royal Welsh Regiment, can include useful luxuries or home comforts that troops would be unable to purchase while on operations.
The appeal is looking for items such as shower gel, toothpaste, wet wipes, roll on deodorant, shampoo, sweets, reading and writing materials, CDs, DVDs, or even a card to show support for troops serving on the frontline.
A collection box for the goodies will be at Tesco, Llandudno Junction, from February 1 to February 29.
This is the second time that the councillors have teamed up to support the cause.
Cllr Priestley said “Merfyn and I participated in this appeal back in 2009 and the troops were over the moon with the support from Conwy residents and very much appreciated the goody boxes. Let’s show them again our support and appreciation of the dangerous job that they are doing on operations in Afghanistan.”
Cllr Thomas said “We feel our soldiers are doing a very worthwhile job in Afghanistan and these boxes go some way to improve morale.
“We’re proud to support the Royal Welsh Regiment and this is just one of the ways that we can show that pride.”
