THE FIGHT to establish green space on a busy Rhyl estate is continuing.
Residents of the Parc View Estate in Rhyl have joined Denbighshire Council in calling for an area of land to be designated an open space through the Local Development Plan.
Ian Gunning, Rhyl town and council councillor who lives on the estate, said: “We are now awaiting a decision over the Denbighshire County Council Local Development Plans.
“Numerous planning applications have been submitted by the landowners Anwyl for a number of developments on this land but all have failed to get planning permission. There is little or no chance of there being any type of development on this land due to the flooding issues identified and therefore the only viable use of the land would be as open, recreational space.”
Cllr Gunning has been working alongside other councillors including Brian Blakely, AM Ann Jones and MP Chris Ruane to preserve the space.
He said: “As someone who actually lives on this estate I can say that residents want to see an acceptable outcome to this dispute and are beginning to feel frustrated by the lack of progress.
“Surely the time has now come for everyone to see some common sense and once and for all allow this land to be used by the local community,
this is the only eyesore in what is a fabulous housing estate and something that can be turned into a thing of beauty if all of the parties involved decide to do so.”
A Denbighshire Council spokeswoman said the authority was in the middle of an LDP Inquiry and the land in question was proposed to be designated as open space in the new plan.
She said: “The land owner has challenged this designation and it will be for the planning Inspector to determine later this year.”
