FURTHER tributes have been paid to a man who died after he was involved in a collision while cycling.
Retired paramedic Alan Mort, 63, suffered serious injuries in the crash on the A548 near Flint on Sunday and died later in hospital.
Former Welsh Ambulance Service colleagues described him as a “role model” and said he would be sadly missed.
Mr Mort worked for the service for about 30 years and spent most of his career at Mold Ambulance Station.
Paramedic Martin Lisin worked with Mr Mort when he was based in Holywell.
He said: “Everyone thought highly of Alan, he was such a nice bloke and a true gentleman.
“There was a lot of respect for him. He certainly taught me a lot in my career.
“He made everyone smile and he was a pleasure to work with.”
Mr Mort had two children – Katherine and Christopher – and lived in Bannel Lane, Buckley, for many years.
He moved to Seaview, Kinmel Bay, near Rhyl, several years ago.
Mr Mort collided with a Land Rover shortly before 12.40pm near the Manor Industrial Estate.
He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police arrested a 44-year-old man, the driver of the vehicle involved, and released him on bail pending further inquiries
North East Wales coroner John Gittins opened an inquest into Mr Mort’s death yesterday.
The inquest has been adjourned until a date to be fixed.
