DAFFODILS are set to spread across Llandudno as part of a plan to keep the town blooming.

The Llandudno, Daffodil Capital of Wales project is a joint effort between guest houses in Llandudno, including Holcombe House and The Hilary Guest House, who are planning to introduce a daffodil theme throughout the town.

Karen Fulker, of Holcome House, said: “I got the idea when I was driving down Glanwydden Lane and it looked really beautiful.”

“We looked up daffodil capitals and they have them all over the world but not in Wales, so we thought it should be Llandudno.”

The group has the support of Llandudno Town Council and Conwy Council as well as the Llandudno Hospitality Association and a number of accommodation providers.

Deborah Thompson, of The Hilary House, said: “We want it to be a real community initiative to get it off the ground, once the planting’s done we can focus on making it a festival.”

Gary Burchett, chairman of Llandudno in Bloom, said: “I’m all for it, anything that enhances Llandudno’s reputation and puts it on the map. Eventually we want to fill every council owned green space in llandudno.

Ideas to make Llandudno the daffodil capital include a mass planting weekend in the autumn, best display competitions, art competitions, poetry, music and daffodil walks.."

Mirrors Hair and Beauty Salon in Llandudno has daffodils in their window throughout winter, and Ruth Clements, owner of the salon, said: “We’ve done this for several years now and clients and passers by are always commenting on how cheerful the salon looks with our daffodil display.”
