A DENBIGHSHIRE firm has been unveiled as contractor for ongoing work at a flagship Colwyn Bay development.
Wynne Construction, based in Bodelwyddan, has been awarded the contract for the Watersports Centre, which forms the next phase of the Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project.
The contractors will start work this month, and are expected to finish in November.
The new phase of the project will include the construction of a cafe/bistro, an education and conference room, changing rooms and a retail unit.
External work will include a car park, showers and seating areas.
A visitor centre will also be opened on the site for members of the public keen to find out more about the development.
Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Conwy Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Development, said: “The Watersports Centre is a vital part of the redevelopment of the Waterfront and will create a destination on the promenade for visitors to use.
Chris Wynne, Managing Director of Wynne Construction, said: “The Watersports Centre further secures the employment of our existing workforce and also enables us to offer employment and opportunities to a number of skilled workers in the Conwy region.”
At a meeting of Conwy County Council’s Cabinet yesterday, a vote was taken on the new name for the development, with Porth Eirias (Eirias Port) the recommended choice.
