AN AUTHOR is launching his work into the digital age with a Kindle-only novel.
Philip Caveney, originally from Prestatyn, has released a new e-novel for youngsters and adult readers called The Talent.
Mr Caveney (pictured above), who is probably best known for his Sebastian Darke fantasy series, was inspired by a grim future where the only escape is through a state-sponsored reality TV contest.
Mr Caveney said: “I’ve always been a prolific writer and my regular publishers can only put out a couple of books a year, at most. If enough people show interest in The Talent, this will only be the first of several kindle exclusives.”
The Talent is set in a not-too-distant Manchester, where Mr Caveney spent years of his life, and follows the fortunes of Josh Williams, an idealistic young musician struggling for survival in a hostile world.
Mr Caveney, who may be recognisable to Prestatyn residents from his appearance in the Scala Cinema mural, said: “The one glimmer of hope on the horizon is The Talent which offers wealth and success to the lucky winner.
“Finally past his 16th birthday, he is able to enter the competition. At the auditions, he teams up with Holly Porter, a troubled girl with a truly amazing voice.
As duo, One Plus One, they start out on the long and difficult quest to reach the finals. But they soon discover that, in this cold and brutal world, even The Talent does not offer the level playing field they have been led to expect. “
Mr Caveney emphasised that this new literary offering is neither an adult or children’s book, but can be read by anyone.
He said: “Anybody who has enjoyed an episode of The X Factor will identify with the storyline. I have a few projects I would like to issue in this exciting new format.
“People will be able to read the story on their phones, their tablet computer, wherever they like.”
The Talent is available for £1.54 on Amazon now.
