COLWYN Bay traders and businessowners have renewed their opposition to plans for a town centre training centre for former addicts.
Members of the town’s Chamber of Trade during a meeting on Monday criticised the propsed facility run by drug and alcohol charity CAIS, situated at the Judge and Jury pub on Station Road, and the effect it could have.
Cllr Lyn Lyon, Secretary for the Chamber of Trade, said: “CAIS failed to understand or address the concerns of those present. It raised more issues than it solved.”
The Judge and Jury pub’s owner Sean Fleming said: “The rest of the traders - there’s cafes up and down the street - say it’s unfair competition.”
CAIS have registered a planning application for the building, which includes changing the use of the building into a mixed-use facility, which will include a bistro, kitchen, offices, function room and training facilities.
Clive Wolfendale, chief executive of CAIS, said the meeting had been “heated”, but hoped people would approve of the plans.
He said: “Nothing in our plan in any way represents a threat to the town - quite the opposite.”
