RALLY STAR Matt Edwards hit the road at the weekend with two major rallies in as many days.
The 27 year old again joined forces with co-driver Sam Collis for the Malcolm Wilson Rally in Cumbria, finishing 7th overall and 2nd in class, and the Mid Wales Stages, taking third overall and second in class.
Starting the weekend in the Lake District, Matt achieved his target of a top ten finish and fastest times in all but one stage, and said: “I spent too long getting to know the set-up position for the car for square right corners and hairpin bends as the first event we did in the car last month didn’t really teach us anything due to the snow and ice.
“It’s a good solid result for us, my confidence and knowledge of this particular car is growing and I need to tweak a few things to overcome issues like the car going light exiting corners and running away a bit.”
On Sunday, Matt stayed in the seat to challenge again in the Mid Wales Stages, which he won in 2010, giving him more valuable time in the driving seat as he gets used to his new Mitsubishi EVO class B13.
“It was a worthwhile exercise as I have a better understanding of where to set the car into the turns now and developed confidence in the braking levels.
“The DMack gravel tyres we are using have done us proud over the two rallies, performing well with good grip in the wet and loose conditions along with the drier more compact gravel stages and I’m learning their limits.”
Edwards will next be competing on the third round of the BTRDA Series at the Somerset Stages on the 21st April.
