ANOTHER winless weekend keeps Colwyn Bay at the foot of the Liverpool Competition Premier Division after crashing to a nine wicket defeat to midtable Highfield.
Dafydd Rhys’ 37 and 18 from Jordan Evans were the most respectable scores from the top order as the Bay hit 105 all out from 54 overs, with Paul Jenkins (12) and Jake Haberfield (18) also adding useful late runs.
The total proved to be well short of what was required though, as Highfield knocked off the win in 24 overs, thanks largely to a hard-hitting 79 in 78 balls from Michael Farrell.
Haberfield took the only wicket courtesy of a catch from skipper Graeme Jones as the Bay stay winless after nine Premier League matches. They tackle fifth placed Bootle at Penrhyn Avenue on Saturday.
The second XI were also beaten at the weekend, going down by four wickets to Wallasey.
Top scores from opener Andrew Shillcock (38), captain Dave Wallace (49) and Arthur Jones (35) saw them post 163 all out in the 40th over.
After a strong start, a slew of wickets left the tie in the balance at 88 for five, but a 67 run partnership from Richard Sutton and Andrew Ward swung the tie in the Wirral side’s favour. Ethan Ray finished as the top wicket taker, striking three for 35.
