ANOTHER unlucky weekend saw Conwy’s first and second XI matches abandoned due to the heavy rain.
Ioan Williams and Peter Tscherewik had taken three wickets each as first team opponents Menai Bridge scored 198 for seven, but with 14 runs after three overs on the scoreboard, Conwy’s response was halted.
The seconds were also well on course for victory, having chased down almost half of Castel Alun’s 97 for nine after Hugh Kelly took three and David Owen and Nick Davies two each.
Rob Miller (10) and Philip Wilson (17 not out) made a successful start to the reply, but with the score on 40 for two from 12 overs, the match was called off.
The thirds completed their match though, beating Pontblyddyn by 55 runs.
Knocks from top order batsmen Sumit Chandran (29), Marc Wolmarans (15), Jawad Afzal (33) and John Brummer (46) provided the backbone to their 156 for nine finish.
Brummer’s five wicket haul for 16 runs then saw off the Pont response, while Jawad Afzal took one and recorded five maidens as they came up short on 101 for eight.
